☕ MuChat Café Ep.03|Anita Chung Interview
Welcome to the third episode of MuChat Café!
In this episode, we sit down with lyricist Anita Chung for a relaxed conversation with host Jae Lau, looking back at her creative journey from 2007 to 2026.
Jae Lau first interviewed Anita in 2007, and nearly 20 years later, the two reunite for another conversation. Together, they revisit their original interview and talk about Anita’s life in Canada at the time, her later return to Hong Kong, and her return to Toronto in 2022 — exploring how different stages of life have influenced her lyric writing.
From “Those Who Stayed Behind” and “A Chaotic Life” to her more recent works, including “Our Ghosts” and her collaborations with Ho Ho Man, “Sweet Enough to Trouble Me” and “Silence Enough to Drive Me Crazy,” Anita shares how she finds inspiration in songs, personal experiences, and the stories of different people.
Beyond lyric writing, Anita also talks about her background in music studies, why she did not pursue a career as a composer or singer, her recent work teaching lyric writing, and how she “juggles” a full-time job, family, her son, and her creative work.
The episode also features some fun segments, including a “This or That” game and a personality test. Anita also shares her thoughts on the film The Lyricist Wannabe and discusses the similarities and differences between her own journey as a lyricist and that of the film’s main character.
Finally, Anita talks about a book she is currently developing — a collection of written works inspired by the words and everyday moments of her six-year-old son.
